Review
The NX200 is the latest in Samsung's mid-range NX series. Samsung developed this range to bridge the gap that exists between professional and point-and-shoot photographers, with a camera that combined extreme functionality with an easy-to-use interface. As such, the strongest feature of the NX 200 is a simplified interface that is the same across all the cameras in the line. It's easy enough for the novice but offers enough options for the expert.
The camera's 20.3 megapixel resolution is also a definite step up from the typical 16.2 point-and-shoot model. Its all-metal case with a "retro-modern" styling adds both durability and class, yet it's also more compact than you'd expect for such a distinctive looking camera.
We were a little disappointed to note that the additional lenses that were supposed to be available with the NX200 are not yet widely available. But overall we found the camera to be very suitable for its intended audience. If you don't mind spending a bit more for something significantly better than the average point-and-shoot, the NX200 is an option.
Advantages: great resolution at 20.3 mp; well-designed user interface including Samsung's "Smart panel"; noise reduction with analog-to-digital conversion; improved video capability and control.
Disadvantages: a bit pricey for those used to point-and-shoot prices; lack of articulated LCD; slower than expected image processing.
Price and Availability: the NX 200 is available worldwide; US price - $599-$899; UK price - £399 to £699
