Review

As far as point-and-shoot cameras go, no one expects professional grade photography at such a low price. Nonetheless, the MV800 marks a first in the point-and-shoot sector with what may be its best feature -- an adjustable LCD screen. The capacitive touch screen rotates from 0° to 180° on a hinge, making it possible for you to see exactly what your camera is pointed at from virtually any vertical angle. This means you no longer have to hold the camera directly in front of your face to take great shots.

Furthermore, the capacitive touch screen is as sensitive as the best mobile phones on the market. That's important for any touchscreen camera in a day and age when users are very accustomed to smooth scrolling and easy navigation. Though the MV800 isn't a powerhouse in terms of its specifications, the LCD screen makes it a worthy option for purchasers of point-and-shoot cameras.

Putting put the camera through its paces we were especially impressed with the intelligent panorama shot feature. Using this feature we able to get three different options with every shot we took. The camera intelligently picks a strong object on either side of picture range and takes three separate pictures with every snap of the shutter. We could choose which of the three we liked best or keep all of them.

Advantages: good resolution at 16.2 megapixels; 7 picture size choices; Schneider lens; 9 shooting modes and 13 scene modes; good selection of style and artistic filters; HD movie capture; storyboard feature; intelligent panorama shots.

Disadvantages: limited picture and movie formats; resolution issues in low light; inadequate performance by built-in flash; some edge noise in larger picture formats.

Price and Availability: the MV800 is now available worldwide. U.S. price: $125-$200; UK price: £100-£190.
